作为对又有两名藏族僧侣自焚抗议的反应，美国政府再度呼吁中国领导人尊重藏人权利。美国国务院当地时间周二（９月２７日）晚间在华盛顿发表声明称，对自焚抗议事件感到不安，中国必须保护藏族的”独一无二的宗教、文化和语言认同”，中国当局必须能够确保记者和外交人员能进入藏区。本周一，四川阿坝格尔登寺两名１８岁藏族僧侣自焚，抗议北京对藏人的统治。自２００９年以来，阿坝地区曾先后有５名藏族僧侣自焚。
